Becoming an architect has always made sense to me–even as a young high school student. It was a way to combine creative musings with math and science. I’ve learned since that it’s also a way to posit
social change, and do so at different scales, by understanding the physical structure of society and designing to make it better.
For me, it comes back to what Karim Rashid conveys about product design: everything we use is designed–for better or worse. Good design comes from the careful thought you put into it. To do this, we must always be agents for our clients and of our culture. We study living nuances, hypothesize, execute, evaluate and begin the cycle anew.
Every project is a new understanding on how we live… who wouldn’t want to do that?
