Alley Poyner Macchietto, in cooperation with Interdenominational Ministerial Alliance of Omaha and assisted by Family Housing Advisory Services, designed a memorial not only for Martin Luther King, Jr., but for national as well as local civil rights leaders.

The etched monument, accompanied by the brick mural sets the cultural and historical tone of Omaha and the area.
