After sitting vacant for nearly two decades, this ornately designed theater was the focus of an ambitious restoration headed by Alley Poyner Macchietto. Today, The Rose Blumkin Performing Arts Center, built in 1927, is a rare example of an atmospheric style theater whose interior was designed to create the illusion of an outdoor setting, complete with ornate plaster city-scapes, flowers, artificial stars and moving cloud projections on the ceiling. Receiving an "Omaha Landmarks Preservation Award", the 65,000 s.f. project included a stage, backstage, main floor seating for 600, two balconies seating 400 and 150, 150-seat studio for small productions, orchestra pit, classrooms, and administrative offices. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
