Slowdown
union pacific railroad museum iowa The City of Council Bluffs Iowa, working with the Union Pacific Railroad, selected Alley Poyner Macchietto to design the renovation of the historic Carnegie Library into a state-of-the-art museum to exhibit and store the collection of artifacts from the Railroad's rich history. Great care was taken to respect the original 1903 Architecture, while modifications were made. The project included interior and exterior restoration of the 45,450 s.f. structure, a new accessible public entrance, restrooms, elevator, exhibit galleries, a historic rotunda, and archival storage space with waterless fire suppression system. The project received the Council Bluffs Historic Preservation Award and the 2003 Iowa Historic Preservation Award.
