Castelar Elementary is a school in South Omaha with a strong neighborhood focus. Enhancing that neighborhood pride and maintaining the integrity of the historic structure were primary goals for the project. The 2002 renovation/addition created an internal loop with classroom space organized around the perimeter and a central gym/cafeteria and administrative area. Parking was relocated to the edge of the site to allow the playground area to be maximized. The 44,100 s.f. renovation and 14,000 s.f. addition includes new classrooms, new restrooms, a new library/media center, administrative offices and staff support spaces, a playground, and a Family Resource Center. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
