The Omaha Public Library, working with the City of Omaha Planning Department, selected Alley Poyner Macchietto Architecture to design the 16,900 s.f. renovation and addition to the Benson Branch Library. The original 1940 building set in a charming neighborhood business district was designed by one of the region's most historically significant architects. The project included a computer lab, space to accommodate the programmed 60,000 volumes, lounge space, front desk, new handicapped entrance and parking. A wood deck and wood truss ceiling, in character with the original building, vault over a collection of books and technology that meets the library's space and service requirements through the year 2010. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
