The Hastings Police Department, with the City of Hastings, selected Alley Poyner Macchietto Architecture to design the conversion of St. Michael's School, built in 1917, into a state-of-the-art police station. Alley Poyner Macchietto led a collaborative effort involving the police chief and his staff, a city council representative, the city engineer and local code officials through programming and design. The 30,900 s.f. renovation included safety rooms with bullet resistant glass, a communication/dispatch room, sallyport for vehicles/prisoner processing, and new elevator tower which provides public access to two community rooms and gym. The new entry tower provides handicapped accessibility and also gives the historic structure a fresh look. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
