Celebrating their 50th year in 2003, the Open Door Mission provides shelter and services for the homeless and poor. Open Door Mission selected Alley Poyner Macchietto to prepare a 6-phase, 20-year Master Plan. Construction for Phase 1 of a day room/lounge will begin in 2008. Phase 2 involves a new 50,000 s.f. building to provide rooms for 50 families in the long-term program and 75 families in emergency programs. The existing shelter will be remodeled for men only. A new Family Ministries Outreach Center, featuring a large gym, classrooms, and clinic space, will be constructed in Phase 3. In Phases 4-6, 30 transitional housing units, a Distribution Center, and a Vocational Training Center will be added. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
