Located among groves of mature trees, the Salvation Army's Gene Eppley Camp is situated just north of the Platte River. The entry to the camp, marked by two stout vertical limestone pillars, gives way to a composition of horizontal, wood-framed structures. The campus, made up of cabins, a bathhouse and an office is nestled along a gently curving path which wraps around the camp pond. The Lodge is designed as a multipurpose facility with a dining hall, indoor activity center and assembly hall. While service areas are enclosed, the primary public area is open, flexible space. Constructed of ecologically sensitive materials indigenous to the area, cedar, limestone and wood framing help the building blend with its surrounding. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
