The 20,000 s.f. project consisted of a new convent to be located on a sloping site in North Omaha for a cloistered order of nuns. After an active brainstorming session with the users, our approach was to structure the building as a large house, with "living spaces" on the upper level and "work spaces" on the lower. The two levels are connected with a passenger elevator. The chapel became the hub of the project, with all spaces radiating from there. This L-shaped floor plan created a secluded sunny outdoor area for meditation and socializing. The project included a sanctuary with radial seating, education space, library, individual sleeping rooms, a central kitchen/dining hall, an elevator, garage, and new parking. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
