Swanson Elementary
A Dynamic and Enriching Learning Environment
The interior of this new elementary school takes cues from the midcentury modern architecture of the building it replaced that was a compliment to the residential architecture and the school’s neighboring arboretum. A mostly neutral color palette of black and white, with an accent of bright blue, allow the colorful activities within to be the primary focus. Natural light can be found in all occupied spaces and large picture windows help to bring the landscape of the adjacent park indoors. Custom wall murals create a unique sense of place. Forest animals and various tree species are highlighted in the super graphics and act as wayfinding. Community learning spaces are denoted by different tree types and the forest animals help to identify each grade. A variety of seating and activity furniture can be found in the learning commons, offering a variety of collaborative and independent learning options.
