Read MoreDuchesne Academy’s students and teachers had been actively pursuing STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Math) based classes, but met some challenges by not having a dedicated space where they could collaborate, share ideas, and access the tools that would allow them to explore and create. The school enlisted the help of APMA to design a modern STEAM classroom that is state-of-the-art while being respectful of the school’s historic building. APMA facilitated visioning sessions with students and instructors to identify their desired uses for the space – what they wanted to make, what tools they needed, and how the architecture could support it. Concepts were developed and presented at follow-up meetings with students and teachers and were later used in the school’s fundraising efforts. Once the funds were secured, APMA completed the design and documentation of the space.

The finished product is an open and flexible space that can change as quickly as the curriculum options do. Whether the students are working with virtual reality, designing clothes, or building robots, the space encourages exploration and has become a favorite space for the school’s curious minds.
