Read MoreThe Union for Contemporary Art “strives to unite artists and the community to inspire positive social change in North Omaha.” The Union took this mission to heart when they began the search for a larger facility in which to house their expanding program needs – settling on a nearby historic building in a prominent North Omaha location that was once a lively commercial and entertainment node. The new space will increase capacity in youth mentoring programs alone from 15 to 80 children and increase The Union’s ability to better serve its community.
Location
Omaha, NE
Size

Scope of work
Addition + Renovation
In need of space to accommodate their growing Studio Theater program The Union decided to expand their performing arts space into an adjacent building. The historic F.J. Carey Block will become a larger Black Box theater with rehearsal, reception, and support spaces. The design offers maximum configuration options to accommodate various performance types, while the lobby and rehearsal space can double as pre-function space and secondary performance area. The plan also includes back of house components required for a working studio theater, including a crossover, scene shop, dressing rooms, and control booth.
