With student and staff satisfaction and retention at the forefront of the design imperatives, the new addition and renovation at Southeast Community College’s Student and Academic Support Center (SASC) provides a setting where all building users feel welcome, comfortable, and productive. Improved wayfinding provides direct access to student services while new student amenities foster collaboration and student interaction on SCC’s campus.
Location
Lincoln, NE
Size
65,000 SF Renovation
37,000 SF Addition
Scope of Work
Renovation + Addition
Date of Completion
March 2023
The SASC addition is clad in metal composite wall panel, dark brick, and a triple-glazed aluminum curtain wall system for maximum solar efficiency. Sun control devices of louvered structural steel and aluminum were also included to further protect the exterior envelope. This tectonic yet elegant aesthetic carries inside where it is complemented by warm wood and pops of color.
The refreshed space creates a vastly improved first impression of SCC and includes a more welcoming front entry. Various gathering spaces are incorporated throughout, including open lounge areas, to encourage students and staff to linger and connect.
